Community

The Red Pepper House is born from the union of a wonderful idea of Spanish architect Urko Sanchez, an expert on the traditions and architectural techniques local, and a request from the owners to do something really unique, influenced by the style of life in swahili and african, in order to attract tourists and to promote this wonderful place.

In The Red Pepper House we believe that Africa gives us a lot of satisfaction and tourism should have a positive impact on the community in several ways:

Our Staff

Respect, motivation and training

The greater part of the staff that attends the house are native to Lamu or its environment, we do a great effort in his training with a relationship of deep respect and motivation, with wages that allow them to keep in perfect condition for their families and save.

The area of the staff called in swahili "KIJIJI KIDOGO" was constructed so that they could work in a facility comparable to those in europe, all over the world that visit said that they had never seen a place so care workers in Kenya, it is a kind of street Swahili, Sudanese or Omani, with accommodations and facilities of laundry, kitchens, etc, which ends up in the water tower to mosque or church symbolic.

Community

The Red Pepper House considers it an obligation of aid and collaboration with the community, in addition to the indirect employment is generated in the home, such as fishing, maintenance, etc, works with Nest NGO that deals with more than 250 children with soup kitchens, schools and hospital, a nearby village called wyoni and a tribe borana.

We have dump fully with Nest, a small NGO founded by Rafael Selas a spaniard, who left everything for the children, because there are practically no administrative costs or structure, the 98% of what you donate reaches out to the children and they will be glad to receive visits from our guests.

Nest addresses the needs of education earning their students with the best grades in the area, nutrition, diets, regular, and adequate health and the Hospital Paul Horstman in Nest that serves a population to a radius of 300 kilometres with different programs of prevention and care.

Among other aid, The red Pepper House has recently built a pavilion for orphan girls who are already enjoying in Nest.

Near the house is the village of Wyoni with which we collaborate in the cleaning and waste collection and provide water to families in need.

Ecology

The Red Pepper House seeks to achieve the maximum level of comfort for guests with a minimum impact posing a challenge for the owners.

We have a team of solar power is the latest generation for the electricity and hot water to get a supply of clean energy.
